BODYWORK

Sporty, single headlamp design contributes to the bike’s slim image. The multi-reflector headlamp throws a clear beam of light, facilitating night-time visibility. Shrouds, too, are compact. While contributing to the bike’s hourglass figure, they maintain the Z250SL’s slim overall design. Creating the under-cowl from a single piece enabled its complex, chiselled shape. Its sharp form contributes to the aggressive Supernaked design. The strategically positioned body panels work in tangent with the trellis frame to give the Z250SL an extremely light look – especially when viewed from the side when the engine’s open-concept image becomes more apparent.

SUPERNAKED ERGONOMICS

The Z250SL retains the light, nimble handling character of the Ninja 250SL, but a more upright riding position and wider handlebar put the rider in the ideal position for active control, facilitating dynamic, sporty riding. Backed by Ninja-based engine and chassis performance, the Z250SL rider will be able to deftly navigate urban traffic. Design of the fuel tank and trellis frame create a slim, narrow package, allowing the rider a compact riding position from which to control the sporty Z250SL. tank offers a narrow grip between the rider’s legs for a compact riding position with good hold performance. Fuel tank volume is 11 litres. Seat height is 785 mm, and the front of the seat near the fuel tank is slimmer, offering riders an easy reach to the ground.

ENGINE

The Z250SL’s 4-stroke single-cylinder engine offers sporty performance in a slim, lightweight and compact package. It delivers a robust mid-range, and its quick-revving character allows the engine to spin up quickly to the high-rpm range, where the engine really sings. The top end delivers strong power and extends well into the over-rev without dropping off suddenly. Like with the Ninja 250SL, every twist of the throttle produces a satisfying surge of acceleration that propels the bike and rider forward. Compact air cleaner design contributes to the bike’s slim package. The air cleaner structure was designed with consideration to optimising airflow and adding to the bike’s sporty performance. Intake funnel length and diameter enhance the 4-stroke characteristics: ultra low-rpm tenacity (which facilitates low-rpm control), strong low-mid range torque and pick up, and a high-revving top end. A gear-driven engine balancer helps to reduce engine vibrations, ensuring smooth power delivery from idle to redline. This contributes to greater comfort and increased ride quality. Fuel injection ensures stable fuel delivery regardless of outside air temperature or atmospheric pressure. It also ensures excellent starting characteristics, whether the engine is hot or cold.

CHASSIS

The Z250SL features an all-new trellis frame. Designed to achieve the chassis’ theme of “slim, lightweight and compact”, the frame contributes to both light, nimble handling, and to an aggressive, sporty design. Weighing in at 148 kg, the Z250SL is almost 20 kg lighter than the Z250. Main tubes formed from high-tensile steel with a diameter of ø31.8 mm contribute to the frame’s rigidity balance and slim dimensions. High-quality steel is used for the truss portions. Short 175 mm head pipe (vs 190 mm on the Z250) contributes to the Z250SL’s compact package. Swingarm bracket constructed with steel plate also contributes to the frame’s handling characteristics.
