KLX230SM (2023)

POWERFUL, LIGHT, MANOEUVRABLE 233CC SUPERMOTO

KLX230SM (2023)

Complementing the 2023 dual-purpose KLX230, the arrival of the KLX230SM further fortifies the KLX brand. Riders of Kawasaki’s 150cc-class supermoto models will welcome the lightweight, and lighter-handling alternative to the 250cc D-TRACKER X when they are ready to step up to a larger-displacement bike. With its fuel-injected 233 cm3 air-cooled, 4-stroke Single engine mounted in a compact perimeter frame, the KLX230SM offers a powerful, light, manoeuvrable package for tackling the urban jungle. Models with ABS offer an added degree of rider reassurance. In some Asian markets, Special Edition models with enhanced equipment are also available.

Top Features

17” Wheels & Tyres

On the KLX230SM, 17” front and rear wheels contribute to agile handling. Tyres are as follows:

F: 110/70-17M/C 54P

R: 120/70-17M/C 58P

Inverted Front Fork & New Uni Trak Rear Suspension

ø37 mm inverted fork contributes to sporty supermoto looks as well as front-end rigidity.

As on the dual-purpose KLX230, New Uni Trak rear suspension provides great bump absorption and gives the bike a planted feel. Single rear shock absorber with pressurised nitrogen gas is adjustable for preload, allowing riders to set the bike up for their weight or a passenger.

Large-Diameter Disc Brakes

Large ø300 mm semi-floating petal disc front brake with a twin-piston caliper delivers sure stopping power while adding to supermoto looks.

Like the dual-purpose KLX230, a ø220 mm disc operated by a single-piston caliper slows the rear.

Engine Fine-Tuning

Like the 2023 KLX230, revised ECU settings offer a number of improvements:

- Lower fast-idle speed reduces engine noise when the engine is warming up.
- Revised atmospheric correction results in improved power feeling when riding at high altitudes.
- Revisions to the fuel injection map offer improved throttle response in cold temperatures.

Generator capacity optimised to suit the change to the new LED headlight (18.0 A at 5,000 min-1 >> 16.5 A at 5,000 min-1).

Fuel injection volume settings allow Thai-market models to use E20 fuel in addition to E0 and E10 fuels.
