With the KLX230 enjoying popularity among trail enthusiasts in both Western and Asian markets, updates to Kawasaki’s highly capable dual purpose model help strengthen the KLX brand. The engine and chassis, both designed with trail riding in mind, remain largely the same, so the powerful, light and manoeuvrable character is carried over. Sportier, more aggressive looks come care of a compact new LED headlight, headlight cover and front fender. Updated ABS allows riders to disable the rear ABS for more active off-road control. For Asian markets, Special Edition models feature a sporty inverted fork. And as before, low-seat models make trail riding fun available to a wider range of riders.
Offering greater performance in the low mid range, the KLX230’s significant power, tailored for trail riding, is complemented by ample, smooth torque that contributes to a rider friendly engine character and delivers linear acceleration. The engine is compact, contributing to the bike’s easy manoeuvrability and light weight, and the simple construction afforded by air-cooling makes it ideal for trail riding.
Matching the strong 1 off-road image of the KX-inspired bodywork, the exhaust features a silencer with an oval cross-section.
Exhaust pipe length contributes to the engine’s low-mid range performance.
Designed from the start for dirt-riding use, the KLX230’s high tensile steel perimeter frame offers the handling stability needed for confident trail riding. Extensive feedback from Kawasaki test riders helped achieve the highly accommodating balance between engine and frame that enables a wide range of riders to enjoy the KLX230. A newly designed rear subframe makes possible longer wheel travel and thicker seat urethane with a similar seat height.

Front-fork features ø37 mm inverted telescopic forks, providing solid front-end support. This enhances handling performance, even on rough or uneven terrain.
Rear-fork The new Uni-Trak rear suspension, combined with a redesigned rear fork, increases wheel travel from 223 mm to 250 mm. This upgrade enhances road-holding performance and bump absorption, giving riders a more stable, planted feel especially on uneven terrain.
Front brake : Equipped with a ø265 mm front disc brake gripped by a twin-piston caliper, offering powerful braking performance with easy control and balanced weight transfer.
Rear brake : Fitted with a ø220 mm rear disc brake paired with a single-piston caliper. The rear brake master cylinder has been redesigned similar to that of the KLX230R, resulting in a weight reduction of approximately 100 g.
The front wheel features a 2.75×21-inch aluminum rim, while the rear uses a 4.10×18-inch aluminum rim.
Front tire : 2.75-21 45P
Rear tire : 4.10-18 59P
* Front and rear wheels and tires are the same for both STD and SE models.
Kawasaki’s ABS system for dual-purpose motorcycles has been specially developed for use on both on-road and off-road surfaces. It is designed to help riders stop the bike effectively within a short distance. The KLX230’s ABS system also boosts rider confidence when riding on low-traction surfaces.
Riders can turn the ABS on and off using a switch located on the left handlebar, which disables both front and rear ABS for better adaptation to off-road riding conditions.
The LCD screen features built-in Bluetooth, allowing the rider to connect their smartphone to the bike via the “RIDEOLOGY THE APP MOTORCYCLE” application, which offers the following functions :
- Vehicle Info : battery voltage can be viewed via the smartphone.
- Riding Log : GPS route information as well as vehicle running information can be logged and viewed via the smartphone.
- Communication(Sharing) : rider profile, location and riding logs can be shared with other RIDEOLOGY THE APP MOTORCYCLE users, allowing riders to interact with other like-minded riders.
- Maintenance Log : maintenance history like refuelling, lubrication, oil changes, consumable parts replacement, and periodic inspections can be managed.
KLX230 Special Edition models include :
- hand covers
- fat-type handlebar
- frame covers
- skid plate
